What my career right taught me on independent entry

When I was a corporate lawyer practitioners and dreamed of writing freelance, I thought that both worlds had much in common. Of course, I knew that two necessary for good reading, research and write some jobs. But apart from this skill set core, I've imagined with the ditching my heels, dark costumes and litigation bag, I would be leaving behind most of the professional rules and practices that shaped my life.

Bad.After I overcome fantasy I ' ll-write-all-day-in-my-PJs and realized that a freelance career involves much more write, I saw that my legal experience has taught me extremely valuable lessons on a freelance business (to not mention that it funded my startup) just 5 lessons key that I learned:

Get it in writing

Lawyers, litigants in particular, are a paranoid bunch. We still believe that any commercial transaction is intended to terribly wrong and therefore prepare for the worst. For this reason, many of us still put more occasional verbal agreements (associated company) by écrit.Il is not necessary for a formal contract for each small problème.Mais I never have a telephone conversation with a client without immediately followed it with an email that sketches designers requirements of the customer, agreements concluded and all other points pertinents.Il goes the same for sources: if I write an article containing a quote that came from an oral conversation, I toss disable email source to confirm my understanding of his words was just before sending out article finished at the Publisher.

Although get everything written practice creates extra work, it may help to avoid misunderstandings down the line
